I’m Viviana and welcome to The Jefa Life. Let me guess, you are career-driven, ambitious, and ready to conquer the world? If so, you are in the right place! I can already tell we are going to be buenas amigas.

My career journey started in 2005 when I had absolutely no idea what to do with my English degree—or my life, for that matter. I lacked guidance and clarity, and didn’t know a thing about navigating life in the “real world”.

Despite not having a business background, a small healthcare company based in Kansas City took a chance on me, and that was the beginning of my colorful career. During the next fifteen years my career adventures included working at hospitals across the country, advocating for families in the juvenile court system in Omaha, and investigating railroad incidents in Los Angeles.

Not your “just another day at the office” kind of jobs, to say the least!

…and many times, I was the only Latina in the room.

It’s no secret that Latinas are underserved in this space and career resources for us are scarce. Like me, most likely you have been navigating your career with limited guidance and rarely see yourself represented in a meaningful way.

And you, jefa, deserve muchísimo más! When I started my career I was clueless and I couldn’t find many resources that resonated with me and my situation. That’s why I created The Jefa Life. I wanted to create a space where Latinas could access career information such as tips and resources, but also learn through stories—Latina stories.

The Jefa Life is about taking matters into your own hands and being the boss of your career and life. In this ever-changing world, it’s important to remember that titles come and go, but a jefa mindset lasts forever!

Grab your cafecito or chilled wine and let’s talk about careers!
